Decorative idea in the urban jungle style: With many plants, natural materials, the right accessories and the right choice of colors, the bedroom becomes the right feel-good oasis.
The greener the better. When it comes to making a real home out of an apartment, then for me Green plants one of the most important means used here. Whether living room, home office or kitchen – with me there is plenty of green to discover in every room. The weekly watering of course also takes some time – but for me it is definitely worth it.
A little makeover in the bedroom
I recently expanded my little urban jungle a little further. Perhaps you can still remember that I showed you instructions on how to do a simple one Build the bank yourself can? However, the project that I implemented together with BAUHAUS went a little further. Because after I had placed my self-made bench in the bedroom, I quickly realized that such a nice piece somehow needs a more exciting setting. I was recently in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim in BAUHAUS Visit the specialist center, because there has recently been a very special source of inspiration: there are 10 furnished bunks with different living styles to discover. In addition to the bunk in the industrial style, which inspired me to implement my bank, I especially liked the naturally designed areas, where there was a lot of green and natural materials such as rattan or seaweed to discover.
These impressions have inspired me to come up with a decorating idea for my new DIY bench Wood wanted to set the scene perfectly and fit wonderfully into the bedroom: a mix of urban jungle and soft, warm colors and natural materials. For that I dared to make a pretty big change. For the first time I took color in my apartment and painted part of the wall against which my bench stands in a warm beige tone, which is a perfect background for the green of the plants and wonderful with the colors of the wood and the basket planters harmonize.
My decoration idea can easily be copied. I have summarized the individual steps for this in the instructions below!
By the way: There is even an article in the BAUHAUS customer magazine about my visit fits!you here you can read.
Instructions for the Urban Jungle decoration idea
+ Beautiful living design color in “soft beach beige”
+ Cross line laser
+ Painter’s tape
+ Painter masking paper
+ Paint tray
+ Short pile scooter
+ Flat brush
+ Various houseplants
+ Matching planters
+ Round glass table lamp
+ Poster terminal block
Prepare for painting
For a clean coating result, the area to be painted must be taped correctly. If the wall is not to get a new color, but only up to a certain height, a cross line laser can be helpful to project an exact, straight line onto the wall, which is then taped with the painter’s tape. In order for the laser to be clearly visible, it may be necessary to darken the room somewhat.
It becomes particularly neat if the paint is not applied directly to the adjacent surfaces (baseboards, ceiling, door frames, window sills etc.), but a certain distance remains, for example as wide as the painter’s tape itself.
After masking, the painter’s tape should definitely be pressed firmly with the thumb to ensure that no paint can run under the tape.
When choosing a suitable color, it is helpful to take the respective color cards home from the specialist center to try out on site which color best suits the room and, above all, the existing furnishing elements. For our project, we opted for a taupe / beige tone that on the one hand brings out the green of the house plants particularly well and makes them appear even more intense, and on the other hand, thanks to its warmth, fits particularly well in the bedroom.
to paint the wall
Once everything is taped and the floor is protected with painter’s masking paper, painting can begin. First, the paint should be stirred thoroughly, then part of the paint is poured into the paint pan. The edges are first painted with a narrow, flat brush in order to later have a clean color edge. The paint is then applied using a roller. For a uniform result, the color is applied in individual strips in the cloister. First, a web is painted vertically and then horizontally. A piece should always be painted in the previously painted, damp field (“wet in wet”), so that no color changes occur. Finally roll over the already painted surface vertically without much pressure to optimally distribute the color in one direction, done.
It is best to remove the painter’s tape before the paint has dried.
Once the paint has dried completely, the furniture can be put back in its place and the self-made bench in front of the wall. Now it’s time to choose the right plants for the small jungle. The main thing is to examine the location (sunny, semi-sunny or rather shady) in order to find the optimal plants for the lighting conditions. Pots made of natural materials such as rattan were chosen as the planters, which harmonize perfectly with the color of the wood and underline the natural look of the decoration.
The right lighting mood is an important factor when it comes to making a living room cozy. It works in a variety of ways. A small, reserved table lamp, for example, can be placed perfectly on the bench surface thanks to its compact size and thus fits perfectly into the arrangement without being too intrusive. Candles in a color that matches the wood and wall color create a special, cozy atmosphere and blend in perfectly with the setting thanks to the tone-on-tone color scheme.
The final personal touch
To give the decoration the finishing touch, personal elements are still missing. After all, nobody wants to live in a setting that looks like an exhibition space. For example, photos can be used as wall decorations. Instead of photos, this can also be a self-made drawing that is framed in a wood-colored frame or in a clip-on poster bar and then placed on the wall.
