Scissors, glue and jam – the light bag workshop with GLÜCK in Berlin

Time is racing – it was still October, now November has already started and we are moving towards the dark winter time with great strides. But – I’m prepared! Just like the 4 workshop participants, with whom I designed a few afternoon decorations with light bags for a few weeks ago. Perhaps you can still remember that I shared with you in early October HAPPINESS jam Places for one autumnWeekend in Berlin was allowed to raffle, including delicious brunch and subsequent light bags crafting session with me. The empty jam jars from GLÜCK are wonderful to place in the light bags together with an LED tealight (safety comes first) to make our home a little brighter and more cozy in the dark season.

It was really a great day in Berlin, with delicious food, delicious jam and beautiful light bags. I have photographed a few impressions and above all the handicraft results for you:

Simple decoration ideas for winter – light bags easy peasy homemade

For the workshop I have prepared four different light bag designs, for which I have of course documented the instructions for you step by step so that you can copy them at home. The first guide for the little ones DIY architectural style light bags I already shared here on the blog in October. In addition to the small bright houses, the participants were also able to use a slightly larger light bag made of printed gift paper, a version with small geometric cut outs and a light bag in a subtly natural design Manager and make pampas gras.

Are you ready for the instructions? Then snatch scissors, glue and paper & Here we go!

Instructions for large light bags made of gift paper

Material:

+ Sheet of wrapping paper measuring 45.5 x 22.5 cm

+ Glue stick
+ Adhesive film
+ LED tea light

Step 1

First fold the A4 paper so that there is a margin of approx. 2 cm on the right side. Then fold this edge and glue it with the glue stick.

step 2

Then measure a section with an 8 cm length on one of the two open sides and fold it upwards.

step 3

Fold this section back and then up the two corners to form a triangle.

Step 4

Reach into the opening at the bottom, pull it apart and then flip it flat on the floor. To close the bottom, the upper and lower edges are folded over towards the middle, whereby one of the edges has to be folded a little further than the middle in order to fix the edges with the glue stick and some adhesive film.

Step 5

In the next step, fold in 4 cm to the right and left to give the bag its three-dimensional shape. When you then open the bag, these folds are pressed inwards.

The light bag made of wrapping paper is ready! It is best to use paper that is as thin as possible for this project and that lets enough light through.

You can find such wrapping paper in the craft shop, in the stationery shop or in poster shops on the Internet.

Instructions light bags with cut outs

Material:

+ A4 paper
+ Geodrekeck
+ Pencil
+ Cutting mat
+ Scalpel and metal ruler
+ Glue stick
+ Adhesive film
+ LED tea light

Step 1

First the sheet is folded, as with the Architecture bags from the last blog post, with the difference that nothing is stuck here so that we can still edit the paper. So: First fold the A4 sheet so that there is a margin of approx. 2 cm on the right side. Then fold this edge. Then measure a section with an 8 cm length on one of the two open sides and fold it upwards.

step 2

Now unfold the paper again. The two large, rectangular fields are the areas with which we work or which we want to embellish with cut outs.

step 3

Now draw small geometric shapes with a pencil and set square or ruler (triangles, trapezoids, simple polygons, whichever you like).

Step 4

Now put a cutting mat under it, grab a scalpel and a metal ruler to carefully cut out the small shapes

Step 5

Once the shapes have been cut out, you can easily fold and glue the light bag together as described in the instructions for the architecture bags.

Finished! All that’s missing now is the LED tealight and a suitable place in your home.

Instructions light bags with pampas grass

Material:

+ Blank light bag
+ dried pampas grass
+ Leather cords
+ Adhesive film
+ Scissors
+ LED tea light

Step 1

Cut a piece of leather strap and fix it in the middle with a strip of adhesive film
on the back of the blank light bag.

step 2

Wrap the leather cord once around the light bag and tie a knot on the side at the front
also fixed with a strip of adhesive film.

step 3

Finally you shorten 1-3 pampa grasses to the appropriate length, place them on the knot and fasten them to the bag with another knot. Tie a bow, cut the ends of the leather strap – done!

Alternatively, you can of course also use a vegan variant such as jute cord or cotton cord instead of the leather cord.

Instead of pampas grass (which you can order online or buy in the local flower shop), this variant also looks very chic with dried eucalyptus.

So these are the four light bags of decoration ideas that we implemented together at the workshop. Do you like them? Of course, you can also mix the different techniques and styles with each other – for example, create wrapping paper bags with pampas, architectural bags with cut outs and and and. As you can see in the picture below, we did not stick to the script during the workshop and very cheerfully mixed the different designs together.

I wish you a lot of fun trying out the light bag decoration ideas!
